Spring is just around the corner, and there’s no better place to spend the season than Washington, D.C. With gorgeous flowers in bloom, cool breezes, and tons of festivals and events, there is always something exciting to do. Start planning for spring by adding these five D.C. events to your calendar.
PASSPORT D.C.
Take a trip around the world in just a few blocks. Starting on May 4th, the embassies of D.C. are opening their doors to visitors for two weeks of education, exploration, and connection. Celebrate international culture and diversity while attending various talks, exhibits, and performances. Admission is free, and the embassies are open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
NATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL
D.C. is known for its groves of succulent cherry blossom trees, and their blooming is cause for celebration. These delicate pink flowers transport visitors to a dreamy world every year at the National Cherry Blossom Festival. From March 20th to April 14th, thousands of cherry blossom trees attract visitors from all over. Accompanied by a vast array of free performances and over 90 special events, this two-week festival can’t be missed.
FIESTA ASIA
The National Asian Heritage Festival is celebrating Asian and Pacific culture this May with an elaborate street fair full of talent and decorations. There will be live music, Pan-Asian delicacies, martial arts, a lion dance, and a traditional marketplace. This beautiful parade will take place in the heart of D.C., and admission is free.
NATIONAL CATHEDRAL FLOWER MART
Springtime in D.C. means flowers everywhere, but there are still some special places you can see the pinnacle of the city’s botanical beauty. Check out the Bishop’s Garden at the Washington National Cathedral to stroll through some of spring’s hidden treasures. The outdoor festival takes place on May 3rd and 4th, featuring special garden tours. Interactive games and rides are set up for children, including a rock climbing wall, moon bounce, mini Ferris wheel, and more. This is a free event the whole family will love.
WHITE HOUSE EASTER EGG ROLL
This classic event makes Easter Monday something truly special. Kids are invited for a grand Easter egg hunt on the White House lawn. With many games and festivities, the morning’s highlight is storytelling and a visit from the Easter Bunny. The President and family also participate in this national tradition. The event is free, but tickets are required and are distributed through an online lottery. This year marks the 141st Easter Egg Roll, taking place on April 22nd.
