Explore Cleveland Park: 5 Things To Love

SEE WHY TODAY’S HOMEBUYERS LOVE D.C.’S BEAUTIFUL CLEVELAND PARK

Developed as a streetcar “suburb” in the 1890s, Cleveland Park dons its name in honor of President Grover Cleveland, who owned a summer estate in the northwest quadrant of the District. On the National Register of Historic Districts, you’ll find 2,500 to 3,000 single-family homes, duplexes, and condominiums, most of which are of Queen Anne, Colonial, and Tudor Revival style. There are even a few examples of modern architecture sprinkled throughout the neighborhood.

There is an energetic and intellectual vibe about Cleveland Park, and you’ll love the feeling of living in a quaint village in the city. For most residents, it’s an easy commute to both the office and weekend getaways thanks to the Cleveland Park Metro.

Quite simply, it’s a wonderful place to call home. If you still need more convincing, though, here are just a few more reasons to love the neighborhood.

1. THE BEAUTIFUL ROCK CREEK PARK

Rock Creek Park is a nationally-recognized treasure. In fact, it was the third park in the U.S. to achieve National Park status. You can gaze at the stars in the planetarium, go for a hike, attend a concert in the summer, play tennis, test out your golf swing, go horseback riding, and take a kayak cruise all in one place. It’s full of adventures you don’t want to miss.

2. MOVIES AT UPTOWN MOVIE THEATER

Uptown Movie Theater is a historic movie theater with balcony seating and a single, gigantic screen. You’ll enjoy a retro vibe that makes any movie feel like a special event. If you love to watch movies with a live audience, the Uptown is the spot for you. This is a favorite among locals and visitors alike.

3. THE HISTORIC TREGARON ESTATE

The Tregaron Estate is a historic woodland property with trails and streams that once belonged to families dating back to Alexander Graham Bell. Today, the Tregaron Estate (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) is protected by the Tregaron Conservancy and is part of the Cleveland Park Historic District. It includes a dog park, beautiful walking trails, and a vibrant history. You’ll also find a variety of events hosted in the park each year.

4. THE “VILLAGE GREEN” AT ROSEDALE CONSERVANCY

Rosedale is a three-acre park located along Newark Street. Once part of a six-acre property at risk of being purchased by a developer in 2001, neighbors came together to raise a total of $12 million to match the bid and create the park in 2002. Rosedale is now protected from future development by a conservation easement. This urban oasis is fondly referred to as Cleveland Park’s “Village Green” and hosts a variety of events—like the neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt—each year.

5. TREE-LINED STREETS AND CHARACTER GALORE

If there’s one thing that Cleveland Park is not lacking, it’s tree-lined streets. In between the two thoroughfares of Wisconsin and Connecticut Avenue are beautiful tree-lined roads brimming with historic row houses and apartments as well as a vibrant shopping and dining scene.

There’s simply nothing more beautiful than an afternoon walk in Cleveland Park while the leaves are changing and the air is crisp.

This is one of Washington, D.C.’s most beautiful historic districts. When you’re beginning your home search in the area, please do not hesitate to reach out. It would be my pleasure to introduce you to Cleveland Park or other historic areas in and around the District.
